i wanna be a kid, again!

December 3rd, 2009 (12:32 pm)
nostalgic

current mood: nostalgic

While running some errands during my lunch break, I passed by an elementary school and saw kids anxiously waiting in line outside the cafeteria, all ready to chow down on the delicious but oh so unhealthy meals, and kids playing on the playgrounds. Suddenly, all the childhood memories came flooding back and I found myself yearning for those simple and innocent times again.

Why can’t there be recess times and lunch breaks, where the most important decisions to be made are whether to play jump rope, dodge ball, kick ball, etc… and whether regular or chocolate milk would taste better, for adults? I so miss those days! It’d be awesome to not have to deal with work-related stress, being a good role model for my younger siblings, personal dilemmas, other people’s morals and fidelities (Tiger Woods, anyone?!), the war in Afghanistan, and the list goes on and on.

*Sighs*. And I wanted so badly to become an adult when I was 10 years old. Now that I’m considered an “adult” by all means, all I want is to be a 10-year-old kid again.

All it takes is just a simple "How are you today?" from a stranger to make me smile and my day that much brighter. :D

Couple Arrested for Refusing to Pay "Mandatory Gratuity"

November 20th, 2009 (12:01 pm)

It's true.

My 2 cents? This whole incident is just absurd and a waste of taxpayers' money. The restaurant manager is an idiot for allowing the staff to call the police just because the group refused to pay the required 18% gratuity for parties of 6 or larger. It's not like they didn't pay the bill for the food and tax. Given the horrible service provided, the manager even admitted it in the article, I wouldn't even say anything and just let them leave in peace. Instead, they blew it way out of proportions and now are suffering from the extremely bad reviews. Totally not worth it over $16 of tips.

I would not mind paying 18% for tips if the service is decent. I've tipped more than that when it's just a party of 2 because the service was truly above and beyond expectations. However, having to wait over an hour for food and getting my own dinnerware and drinks will not result in a single cent of tip! It's actually a bit similar to the experience we had at a local brewery in which we walked out after an hour and a half of wait and only garlic fries and beer made it to the table. It was my bf's idea and since he was a server for quite a few years and is usually very empathetic towards servers, I happily obliged and didn't feel guilty at all! HA!

This is why I favor the European way of including all the costs in the price of the item. That way, I know exactly how much I need to pay before ordering. And saves us all the headache of calculating the right amount (cost of food + beverages, tax, tips) for each person in a big party.

Get a life…

…seriously!

You were never on good terms with my boyfriend, yet, after you decided that my great friendship was not good enough for you, you befriended him on Facebook. I know it’s quite silly and immature to give a rat’s ass about my boyfriend’s FB’s friends list. But when it’s someone who dissed me and the many years of our friendship without so much as an explanation and “unfriended” (word of 2009) me on FB – you bet I’ll give a rat’s ass. And you bet I had a talk with my boyfriend about it. Guess who’s no longer on his friends list? I’ll give you a hint…not me!

If you would like to know about my life, why don’t you try being a nicer friend to me, starting with an apology, instead of snooping around my bf’s FB, yea?

Until then, I hope you’ll take it as a very strong hint and stay out of my life!

Things I’m in love with:

Guess Rumala Over-the-Knee Boots

I can’t wait to try these on (they’re freshly delivered and waiting at home)! I’ve been lusting after them for the past few months and luckily for me, Nordstrom.com had my size, even if they were back-ordered. And thanks to Fritz’s sister and her husband for the birthday gift card, I was able to offset the price quite a bit. =)

Model in a Bottle

I discovered this product a few months ago and am completely in love with it. All you gotta do is lightly spray it on your face after all the make-up is applied and it’ll help the make-up stay put all through out the day and night. Seriously, unless you take it off with a make-up remover, it will not smudge! I have pretty sensitive and oily skin so I got the sensitive one and have not experienced any negative reactions. http://www.modelinabottle.com/

Nine West Vishnu

Got these in bronze and they are becoming my go-to work shoes. They’re quite comfortable despite the 3.5” heels. Love the round-toe and soft leather. And the color gives a bit of “pop” to the fall/winter work outfits (which consist mostly of grey and black). Oh, and the fact that I got them on clearance for $18 makes me love them that much more!

p.s.: waking up next to him on a Sunday morning and do nothing but laze around and watch Sunday football is definitely what I love most. =D

Is it just me or do kids grow up way too fast these days?

I just attended one of my brothers' Senior Honors Night and throughout the ceremony, these are the things I noticed:

--girls dressed in short shorts
--girls wearing designer high heel shoes
--girls parading LV, Chanel, Burberry bags
--girls with full face of make-up including fake lashes and the works
--girls with hair all done up

Someone please tell me that this is NOT normal. I only graduated high school 7 years ago but man, did I feel ancient standing around those girls. I didn't even know about designer shoes, apparel, and purses until I was a senior in college! And make up?! Pssstt, I didn't know how to apply fake lashes til like 2 years ago! And there those girls were, 18 years old at most, showing off their collection of various designer items and flawlessly made up faces.

Either those girls are spoiled princesses or they must know ways of making major moola because I know for a fact that those purses are real. How? Well, let's just say I've spent enough time on the purse forums...

But yeah, back to what I was saying...Those kids are growing up way too fast! And I think that our celebrity-obsessed culture has something to do with it. I mean, if I were surrounded with reality shows, gossip magazines, and now-a-days MTV when I was in high school, I'd probably be one of those girls, too.

bike the bridge - sf to sausalito

May 18th, 2008 (09:15 pm)
happy

current mood: happy

Fritz's co-worker suggested that we bike across the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito, have dinner, then take the ferry back to SF. Without contemplation or hesitation, we said, "Why not?!" It has been so HOT and sunny in the bay so we couldn't possibly turn down a chance to experience something new in the City. And so, we embarked on this adventure yesterday when the sun was shining brightly at Pier 41...

our bikes - rented from Blazing Saddles

fritz on his bike

passing Pier 43 1/2 where people are enjoying a great day at the beach

Fort Mason Center

Marina Blvd.

instead of the sunny day, we got a bridge filled with thick fog and crazy winds - i was so afraid to get anywhere near the rail for fear of being blown away...

on the Marin County side of the bridge

just look at all that fog rolling in!

ah, we made it to Sausalito - what beautiful view of the coastline

the town of Sausalito

view of the water at Piccolo Caffe

egg, ham, and parmigiana croissant @ Piccolo - great meal to refuel after the 1.5 hr bike ride

turkey breast panini

bike, linh, bike!

What a fantastic adventure that was. Even though there were moments I just wanted to give up such as those steep hills and the non-existent vision on the Golden Gate bridge, I'm glad we stuck to the course because the view on the other side was simply breathtaking. =)

My back and legs are screaming bloody murder right now...but nothing a few Ibuprofen can't cure.
